About these ratingsScores shown are editorial assessments compiled from publicly available sources โ€” provider websites, Google reviews, independent review sites, community discussions, and published news. They are not direct Google scores, regulated endorsements, or personalised financial advice. We assess providers across: regulatory standing, governance disclosures, transparency of fees and terms, track record, and peer comparison. Providers marked Broker / Credit Representative are intermediaries โ€” they do not lend their own funds. Ratings may change as new public information becomes available.Last reviewed: 14 April 2026

What Is Islamic Finance?

Islamic finance is a system of financial activity that conforms to Shariah โ€” Islamic law. Its most fundamental principle is the prohibition of riba (interest), which is considered exploitative and unjust.

Instead, Islamic finance uses profit-sharing, leasing, and co-ownership structures to enable transactions that are both commercially viable and ethically sound. In Australia, a growing number of ASIC-licensed providers offer these products across home finance, superannuation, and advisory services.

Murabaha

A cost-plus-profit sale where the financier purchases the asset and sells it to you at an agreed mark-up, paid in instalments.

Ijarah

A lease-to-own structure where you pay rent on an asset (e.g. a home) while progressively acquiring ownership.

Musharakah

A co-ownership arrangement where you and the financier jointly own the asset, and your share increases over time.

Riba

The Arabic term for interest or usury. Its prohibition is the defining principle distinguishing Islamic finance from conventional banking.
